Child, I see you shake
child, I see you hide your eyes
from the mermaids and all the shapeless wights
you see them shimmer in the shimmering light
to no one else do you confide
that they're all true
these stories of the seaside

all fierce and free and wild-eyed
with the mermaids you touch the other side
you see them swim and see them dive
into the depths of dreams and satisfy
what you know is true
down there at the seaside

The crashing waves you see them fall
the mermaids dream beneath it all
they wave to you but they don't call

as you look to the land as you decide
that the mermaids have gone to the other side
